Donating my hair to charity - By Kaila 11 years old

I am 11 years old and on my 12th birthday, I am going to donate my hair to charity. My hair will be used to make a wig for a child who has lost their hair due to illness.

This is my story......When my Mum was 28 weeks pregnant she suddenly felt not well. She went to hospital and had a very bad virus. She stayed there for a few days until she was better. Just before she was going to be discharged the Dr said that he wanted to give her a scan to check that the baby, ME, was ok.

The scan results showed that the blood in one of my arteries was flowing the wrong way...........

2 hours later I was born!

At only 28 weeks I had to be taken to special care. My parents came to visit me every day and they describe that time as a rollercoaster of emotions. One day I was doing well and the next day I was not doing well.

After 4 long months and a lot of miracles, I was allowed to come home. I still had to be fed in a special way and I needed a lot of attention. I grew a lot and by the time I was 2 years old I was reaching milestones and leading a normal life.

I am so grateful that I am alive and well today. I am grateful that my Mum had a virus otherwise they may not have known about the artery flowing the wrong way.

I want to thank my Mum and Dad for everything they have done for me and do for me every day. They are the BEST parents in the world.

My way of saying THANK YOU.

I have grown my hair to over 20" long. I am going to ask my friends and neighbours to sponsor me to cut off my hair to donate it to make a wig for a child who has lost her hair because of an illness.

On my birthday I am going to go into the neonatal unit that I stayed in for 4 months and I am going to present them with the money that I collect from donating my hair.

(By the way, i raised £575 for the neo-natal unit).
